Vishambharnath Sharma Kaushik was born in Ambala Cantt in 1891. When he was four years old, his grandfather brought him to Kanpur, where he received his education and got well-versed in Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Persian. He died in 1945. Kaushik was initially interested in Urdu but in 1909 he got attracted towards Hindi. A majority of his stories are based upon character building and moral uprightness. His contribution is of utmost importance in the development of the Modern Hindi Language. He holds a significant place among the famous writers of the Hindi language such as Premchand, Jaishankar Prasad and Guleri.
